Rabbits Update August

Fixture 7 for the Rabbits was a visit to Catterick Golf Club. Nice sunny and slightly windy conditions were the order for the day and scoring wasn’t the highest from majority of teams. Bishop finished the game in 6th place earning another 3 league points. Top scorer for the day was Shaun Forrest with 33. Bishop are sitting 6th in the table however hope to catch the teams above with one game left. Final fixture is a trip to Prudhoe where the league winners will ...be decided and individual honours finalised too.

Sunday 20th August was the Rabbits final game of the 2017 season. Sadly Bishop were out of the running for a top 2 place and a finals day spot however there was still some final points on offer to close the gap on teams above. A great effort from all the lads saw Bishop finish with a strong 4th place earning 5 league points. This meant that Bishop finish joint 5th with 34 points from 8 fixtures. Top scorer for Bishop was Phil Richmond with 38. Catterick finished league winners with Blackwell Grange picking up the runners up place.

Individual honour for this season goes to Phil Richmond, Phil’s 38 points in the last game of the season knocked off Shaun Forrest for top player, a place that Shaun had held since the 2nd game. Hard luck to Shaun however Phil will represent Bishop at the Final’s Day at Woodham on the 30th September for the individual championship. We wish Phil the best of luck and hope he can bring home the trophy for Bishop.

In closing it’s been a hard fought season this year and sadly we were unable to repeat out final day success from last year. However we bounced back well in the mid-season fixtures to ensure a strong finish at some tough courses.

I would like to thank all the players involved this year, we had to call on some extra recruits and I can’t thank them enough for the support. A thank you to team sponsor NICE (Ian Alderson) for the team shirts for this season, we had some good feedback from other clubs in our Pink tops.

A thank you for the support from the club for the host fixture day and for the catering and bar staff for their help too keeping all players fed and watered. Thanks also extends to the green staff, your hard work was truly noted on our home game and the course received excellent feedback.

Next season will be a stronger one I’m sure and we look forward to having an INTER team as well as the Rabbits competing in the NERGA league. This will mean we have team golf for all levels of golfers from scratch to 28 handicap.

Thank you again for all the Support

Rabbits Update

Bishop’s Rabbits team have had their latest fixtures in the NERGA Green Zone league with trips to Houghton le Spring and Kirkbymoorside. A fantastic days weather produced some fine scoring at the Houghton fixture, despite a team score that in past games would have won the day, Bishop finished the day in 7th place with all eight teams within 20 points of each other making it a real tight affair. This left us on 14 points for the season after 4 games. Next up fo...r Bishop was a long trip to Kirkbymoorside. The team had to call on some extra help for this fixture as many players were unavailable and the help was much appreciated. The long travel and limited squad didn’t seem to bother the team as the romped to a 3rd place spot. The team scoring was consistent and saw Bishop earn 6 league points, finishing behind home club Kirkbymoorside and 2nd place Thirsk. This was a huge result and know have a game in hand on the teams above us in the table, so opportunities to narrow the gap. So after 5 games Bishop sit 7th with 20 points, 3 teams above us have games to miss so we can climb the table if we continue with the good results. Next up is a trip to Thirsk and Northallerton on 29th July.

Thanks for the support! Daniel Fletcher Rabbits Captain

Rabbits Team Update

It’s been an early start for the Rabbits team this year with our first fixture at Darlington in mid April.

Bishop were drawn in the Green Zone with long trips away to Ripon, Kirbymoorside and Thirsk & Northallerton. Of the 9 teams in the Green Zone 5 were finalists at Rockcliffe last year so a very competitive league this year, offering a great test for the team.

It was a tough start for Bishop on a rather wet Bank Holiday Sunday, 4 good scores were not enough on a competitive day and Bishop came away in 6th Place picking up 3 points.

Our second game was at Ripon City at the start of May. Sadly the conditions didn’t help much with a strong wind causing problems for a few teams, Bishop had another 4 scores above 30 but sadly the other 4 weren’t enough for the team to close the gap and we finished 7th with 2 league points.

Fixture 3 was Bishops home fixture on Sunday 21st May. The team knew they needed to make home advantage count in order to get back to winning ways and improve our league position. Early scoring was good but as the day went on the scoring from all teams became quite close. The last couple of scores for Bishop made sure we finished 2nd on the day only 4 points behind winners Catterick, disappointment not to win our home game however we return winning ways and a much improved result. One we hope to build on and close the gap to the leaders.

After three games Bishop sit mid table with 12 points, there are 5 fixtures left so long way to go. Our next game is at Houghton le Spring on the 3rd June.
